The reason that I'm not riding is because the motorcycle is sitting on Bud's trailer waiting for Track Day tomorrow at Blackhawk Farms. I'll be heading out of the house early, like before 4:30am.

Whoa, It Lives!
Yes, I'm still around and yes, I do ride bicycles sometimes.
I was out on the new 29er from Gary Fisher that I bought this past spring. It was the first ride on it.
I rode out in the Harley Woods area for the first time. It is a really nice area just down the road from me. It was perfect for me since I haven't been in the woods since last year. It felt good and hopefully I can get back out a few more times this week.

Motocycle Stuff
So you are wondering what else I have been up to? What's the Slimey Crud Run thing you got on the schedule. I, my friend, have been riding the motorcycle. The Buell now has over 3400 miles on it.
I had vacation today because I took today and Monday off for Trans Iowa many months ago. With me not going to Iowa, I decided to keep the days off for some recharge time.
Today Barb and I put down over 200 miles on the Buell 2 up. It was windy as hell as we headed out to our first stop. The stop was supposed to be the sport-touring.net Region 4 WI/IL photo tag. But correct name, wrong location. We road over to Sauk City via the freeway since the radar looked like we were going to get poured on. The wind was nasty, but good training for me since I haven't road 2 up in that type of wind. We got to the place and I noticed right off that it just didn't look right. But, we did this run for food, so in we went for some breakfast. And good food it was. While there we find out that they also have another place in Cambria. So off we go. The weather was getting better, not quite so windy and the sun was trying to come out. So, we get there and have some pie. Cambria reminds me of up north. Small town, but nice people. So the tags were done and off to home we headed. So it was a nice long day on the bike.
Tomorrow should be more of the same. The Brew City Thunderbike guys are heading up to Road America for the motorcycle races. Should be a fun day.
Then on Sunday is the Slimey Crud Run. I'll be riding again with the Brew City Thunderbike guys.

Photos from GLR 200k Brevet
The GLR 200k Brevet is in the books. 8.5 hours in the rain, whew......
It was a long day in the rain and I only completed about 70 miles on the Fargo. That bike is good in theory, but poor in execution on the road. Maybe if I had killer legs, it would work. I don't have those though, so I took what I got. As Little E would say, It is what it is.
It started out with finding out that the Fargo didn't fit on the Neon with the wind deflector installed. The front rack hit. Needless to say, I wasn't taking the rack off, so the deflector was easily removed.
The day was good though. Even though I was cold, wet and tired, I was still happy. The Hammer products I used rocked all day long. Caffe Latte Perpetuem is awesome in a high calorie bottle. I wasn't sure how it was going to work, but as usual, it did not let me down. This new product is most definitely something that everyone should try. I was bundled up in the rain and that is the worst for electrolytes. I was pounding 6 Endurolytes an hour for 4 to 5 hours and then my legs started to cramp up, so I started taking 2 more on the bottom of the hour. That helped a ton, but man, I was wiped when I finished. I'm really glad I didn't go to Trans Iowa with this state of fitness. It would have been a really short ride.

Trans Iowa a No Go
I emailed this to Guitar Ted tonight.
Ted,
Sorry to say, but I must drop out of this year’s race. =(
To make a long story short, work, lack of training and the economy are the culprits.
Thanks for all you and Dave do. It is greatly appreciated.
Todd Strobl
Brookfield, WI
So, that's it. Trans Iowa is out for this year.
But on a better note, I have decided to join Randonneurs USA and the Great Lakes Randonneurs club. This means I will be doing the 200k out of Delavan the end of April. More adventures await.

Paragon is READY!
215 pounds....
I'm working on the weight. I let it go WAY too far this year and now I'm paying for it. I have started my 2 hour spin classes, so that will help some. And today I got on the trainer for 45 minutes to start shocking the body even more. Now I will have to work on what I'm eating and when.
Collin down at Cyclesmith dropped me an email yesterday early afternoon stating:
Hey whats up. I just wanted to let you know that I grabbed $3000 and put it under your account here at the shop I am starting to get the Paragon decked out and measured. The date on the frames is the 25th now. I missed out on 6 of the Fargos that they got in. They were there for 5 minutes and I missed them by seconds. As far as the wife's bike goes I think I'm going to hold for another week and let it get a little nicer out. So far you have $3205 in the shop. Let me know when you want to get the Paragon ready.
WOW and BUMMER all rolled into one. The Paragon is getting worked on and damn, the Fargo is still just out of reach.
Then later he sent me this:
Hey I got the Paragon all done. It looks awesome. You will like it. Let me know when you can stop in and check it out and finish it up.
DONE! That guy is awesome. If he were a chick I'd kiss him. Hell, I might just kiss him anyway. =)
So now, here I sit in the middle of a huge snow storm. Trying to decide if I should brave the weather to pick up the new bike. hhhmm.....

Way Cool
All my stuff has been sold on Ebay and things went really well. The new Fargo will be bought as soon as frames are available. The new Paragon is at the shop waiting for me to buy it. The new rims for it are there also.
The weather was warm enough today to get out on the Buell. That was nice.
Went to IMS yesterday, that was way cool.

Finally
Yup, I finally got back on a bike today. I was on the trainer for about 30 minutes. I need to rebreak in my butt, so I only rode a short time. Legs were super heavy for the first 10 minutes, but much better after that. In fact, much better the rest of the day.
Tomorrow is Advanced Accident Scene Management class in Fond du Lac. I haven't decided yet if I'm getting up early to ride some before I leave.

Catching Up
213 pounds....
Man, I didn't think it was THAT much. Food is evil. =)
I missed signing up for the Horribly Hilly Hundreds by about 10 minutes. I was late coming home last Thursday and didn't get logged on to register until about 20 minutes in to the process. Well, I was too late by then. 1000 spots filled up in under 20 minutes. Whoa! They do have 300 spots that will be done in a lottery. I have signed up for that. Wish me luck.
I have signed up again this year for 6 weeks of 2 hour spin classes with Sheryl. This is gonna hurt. Hopefully I can get some bike time between now and then. The first class is February 1st.
The Lab move at work has been postponed until the first week of February. Seems the new area wasn't quite ready for us.
Tucson here I come. I'll be there the second week of February for training. Should be nice and warm, hopefully.

Frakin' Thursday
Man, some higher ups at work just don't really know how to plan things. Everybody is supposed to be able to pull resources and funds out of thin air. When will they ever learn?
Was busy early today by snow blowing the drive at 4:30am.
Work was work. Way too much happening for the amount of time and effort that I have for it.
I really need to get on a bike and ride some. Sheryl is back at doing her 2 hour spin classes starting up in February. Woohoo. I always love those classes. They will be at the YMCA in Waukesha again this year.
Dropped off more stuff at the bike shop for the swap meet. While there I realized I left a few items in the basement. They are now sitting out so that I can drop them off tomorrow after work.
Caught up on a couple of more episodes of LOST. We hopefully will be kinda caught up by the time they start showing them again.

Wednesday Schmednesday
My Gawd, how many days in a row has he posted asked the masses? I guess I feel the need to blog. =)
The pressure cooker called work is turning it up a notch. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one planning for the lab move. Hopefully I'm not.
Snow has visited us again. I'll be up early tomorrow to work the new snow blower that I bought earlier this year. A snow blower you ask, yup, I'm trying to optimize my time and that was one way of doing it.
Barb made it back from up north and both of the girls lived to tell about it.
I need to drop off more things for this weekend's bike swap meet at Cyclesmith. Hopefully I'll make a few dollars to put towards the new bikes for 2009.

Tuesday, Tuesday
Well, flying will be for me. I pretty much have come to the conclusion that attempting to ride a motorcycle out of Wisconsin in February is pretty tough.
Next week's training has been changed some too. Only 2 days of training next week.
Barb's up north for Danny's Funeral. Hopefully things will go well up there.

Sleepy Monday
I have to get to bed earlier. I keep staying up till the wee hours and then getting up at the crack of dawn. Makes for a sleepy day.
Monday was Monday. Work was Work. Too many projects with not enough time. And the time is slipping away. Next week is a full week of Crystal Reports training so the projects don't get worked on. The week after that is the lab moving into their new digs. It is going to be somewhat ugly because the static IP addresses will be changing. yuck.....
Then there is the decision about riding the Buell to Arizona. I'm getting the feeling that I will be flying. Bummer.....

Super Slow Sunday
I didn't do much today but catch up on the Dexter episodes and get some bike things together for the upcoming swap meet. The guys from Cyclesmith will be taking my stuff over to sell at their table. They realize that if they sell my stuff, they'll get the money back in sales when the Fargo gets bought.
Otherwise the driveway was still super icy today and Worf was NOT liking it. He had a heck of a time standing up on it.
I have to decide about riding the Buell to Arizona. Otherwise I will need to pull the trigger on ordering airline tickets.

Sad Saturday
I just got back in from walking the dogs. My driveway is now one big sheet of black ice. Yuck.
We got word this afternoon that Barb lost one of her uncles to a snowmobile accident. His name was Danny Kolnik. He was an old school stock car racer from way back. There were times that I didn't like him during those long lost years, but over the past couple of years, he and I got along well during family get togethers. Last summer when I was up at his house, I knew I liked him for a reason, that reason was a bicycle sitting in his garage. He said he even rode it every so often. He will be missed. Our thoughts go out to his family. I'm not sure if I'll be up for the funeral or not, but I know Barb will. Hey Danny, say hello to Dick Bishop and Tim Lorenz for me. Because I have a feeling you guys all ended up in the same place.
Hey, do you want to buy a 2007 Specialized Epic SWorks? If so, let me know.
I got out on the Buell today. I bundled up about 4 layers thick, but it was fun non the less. I ran some errands on it. I did see one other rider out today, so that was kinda cool.
The girls are now back from being up north for the week. The dogs got haircuts and bathes today. And the first day of Dakar happened today. Now I just need to get more work done on getting the bikes set up in the basement.
Wish me luck......

If the weather is nice tomorrow, the Buell is going out for a spin.

Happy New Year
